Anatomic Pathology

Anatomic Pathology

Anatomic or anatomical pathology is one of the services offered under St. Cabrini Laboratory, which studies the effects of disease on the structure of your body organs, by using a microscope, or through molecular, biochemical or immunological means. source

1.1 Cytopathology

A subspecialty of anatomic pathology pertaining to the study of individual cells in certain diseases. The taken cells from your body are then examined by our anatomical pathologist to know what type of cells they are, how they are grouped together, and what the cell details are (shape, size, nucleus, etc). The result will be helpful in determining whether a disease is present in your body and what is the likely diagnosis. source

1.2 Histopathology

Histopathology is the microscopic examination of biological tissues to observe the appearance of diseased cells and tissues. It is closely similar to cytopathology, however, it has a wider scope as it studies the microscopic structure and chemical composition of your tissue systems, as well. source

1.3 Immunohistochemistry

This is a subspecialty performed on fresh or frozen breast cancer tissue removed during biopsy. This test plays a critical role in your treatment planning, especially in diagnosing cancer. source
