Doctor of Optometry

Course Overview

The Doctor of Optometry is a professional program that prepares students to become licensed optometrists, offering comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of visual disorders and ocular diseases. The program is grounded in the principles of Republic Act 8050, also known as the “revised Optometry Law of 1995” which governs the practice of Optometry in the Philippines.

It is designed to fulfill the requirements set forth by RA 8050, ensuring that the Optometry professionals are well-prepared to uphold the standards of the profession and meet the vision and ocular health needs of the Filipino people in Veritas et Fortitudo (trush and Fortitude), Pro deo et Patria(For God and Country).

Program Educational Objectives

The main objective of the Optometry Education is to provide the country with Optometrist who possess:

  1. High level of competence to deliver the full spectrum of optometric services, which consist of the prevention, examination and evaluation, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of disorders, dysfunctinos, and diseases of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures.
  2. A mastery of a core knowledge in Optometry and related medical sciences, and sufficient thinking abilities to analyze new information as to add to this knowledge base continually;
  3. The qualities, attributes and values essential to the delivery and promotion of the eye care services to the Filipino people; and the desire to improve optometry by advancing the knowledge, skills and values of the profession with exposure through practicum
