As St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center (SFCMC) celebrates its 28th anniversary, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from the local government units of Sto. Tomas, Tanauan, Malvar, and Calamba gathered on July 16, 2026, for a seminar on breast and prostate cancer.
Surgical Oncologist Dr. Malen Gellido discussed the common risk factors for breast cancer and emphasized the importance of regular screening. He encouraged women aged 40 years and above to consult their physician regarding appropriate breast cancer screening, including mammography and, when recommended, breast ultrasound.
Urologist Dr. Stephen Nazareth highlighted the importance of prostate health and encouraged men aged 50 years and above to speak with their physician about prostate cancer screening based on their individual risk factors and health history.
The seminar reinforced a simple yet vital message: cancer screening should not wait until symptoms appear. Detecting cancer at an early stage can lead to more treatment options and better chances of recovery.
Through PhilHealth YAKAP, registered members may access coverage for selected outpatient cancer screening tests at accredited YAKAP healthcare providers, helping make early detection and timely care more accessible to the community.
