In celebration of Diabetes Awareness Week, St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center (SFCMC) concluded its 26th anniversary festivities with the final forum titled “Dia-Beat-It: Pagkilatis sa Diabetes” on July 31, 2024.
SFCMC endocrinologists Dr. Pamela Ann T. Aribon-Lopez, Dr. Ma. Cecille A. Cruz, and Dr. Jeremy Anne P. Suelto, led the comprehensive discussion on diabetes.
Before the program, participants underwent random sugar testing using a glucometer, organized by the speakers.
Dr. Cruz clarified, “Pero ang totoong pag-test ay ‘yun pong naririnig natin… Ang Fasting Blood Sugar po ay ginagawa natin sa laboratoryo,” emphasizing the need for in-depth testing for a full diagnosis.
The doctors highlighted the acronym IWAS for managing diabetes: I-konsulta sa doktor, W-astong pagkain, A-ktibong pamumuhay, at S-apat at angkop na mga gamot. Dr. Suelto elaborated on these steps, emphasizing their importance in diabetes management .
The two-hour event was attended by Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from Calamba and Sto. Tomas City, who actively participated in a warm-up exercise and a Q&A session.
Dr. Aribon-Lopez encouraged the BHWs, saying, “Sana naipapamahagi ninyo ito sa mga kasama ninyo sa barangay,” to disseminate and educate their communities about diabetes.
SFCMC plans to launch its own diabetes center before the year ends to better cater to patients facing the challenges of the disease.
